Published: December 3, 2008

Orange Park Gallery International in downtown Tampa will showcase the talents of two local artists in an exhibit opening Friday called "Convergence."

Featuring paintings, sculptures and drawings by Guillermo Portieles and Carlos Camargo Vilardy, the exhibit presents technically varied works that find a common focus: the human form. While Vilardy favors sculptural expressions in bronze, steel, forged iron, wood and terracotta, Portieles' works are primarily oil on canvas.

The public is invited to meet the artists and see their works at the opening reception from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 1215 N. Franklin Street. The works will be up through Jan. 14.

Call the gallery at (813) 333-6299 or visit www.orangepark gallery.com for information.

Take A Walk For Art

Ybor's monthly ArtWalk is celebrated from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday along and in the vicinity of Seventh Avenue in Ybor City. Seventeen participating galleries, studios and museums will provide special sights, insights and demonstrations during the free event.

Among the firsts at this month's walk is the participation by renowned painter of cows, Ellen Marshall, who just returned from her summer digs in Michigan. She will open her studio to the public in Gallery 1707 on Fifth Avenue.

At the Romeo Gallery, 1515 E. Seventh Ave., well-known local artist David O'Keefe will present "Godfather 3: The Familia," an exhibition that includes works of art and fun for the whole family.

"We'll have gelato, and David will be doing face painting and caricatures of people all day long," said gallery owner Walter Romeo.

The art includes giclee prints of O'Keefe's original oil painting, "The Godfather," as well as his entire collection of original paintings on paper that he used in different publications in the past. They range from $30 to $100, with all proceeds benefitting Joshua House, a treatment facility for various addictions.

Guides to venues can be picked up at any participating gallery or other shops in the Historic District.

Call Walter Romeo at (813) 495-4649.

Local entrepreneur Ciney Snook has found an innovative way to support the arts.

She has six artists from Australia and the Tampa Bay area for an independent four-day exhibit called "CovetArt."

The free event commences with a meet-the-artists reception from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Exhibition times after the opening are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The exhibit location is 4605 W. Vasconia St. in South Tampa. Call Snook at (813) 832-3171 for details.
