Ophelia Project Event Focuses On Women's Fashion

WEST SHORE - The third Conversations & Cocktails event, designed as a networking and social activity for professional women 25 to 35, will be Aug. 6 at Nordstrom's at International Plaza.

The series, sponsored by the Ophelia Project-Tampa Bay, focuses on "Exploring the 6 F's: Fashion, Fortune, Finagling, Family & Friends, Fitness and Fertility." The Aug. 6 event looks at fashion and the impact of a woman's appearance on her perceived job performance.

The event begins with networking from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., and guided conversations will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A fashion show will showcase handbags, jewelry and shoes.

100th Birthday Celebration On Friday

WELLSWOOD - Pastor Pages will be honored Friday with a 100th birthday celebration for his immediate family and the residents of the CTA River Apartments, where Pages lives independently.

Pages was born July 26, 1908, in Key West and moved to Tampa in 1955. He worked as a barber most of his life at a shop in the El Pasaje Plaza in Ybor City.

He is the son of Domingo and Barbara Pages, who were immigrants to the United States and whose names appear on the wall at Centennial Park.

Pastor Pages' wife was Isabel, who is deceased, and he has four children, Evelyn Salabarria of Tampa; Rosa Leon of Lutz; Robert Pages of Redington Shores; and Oscar Valdes of Murphy, N.C. He has 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren with one more expected in September.

"On a daily basis, Pastor walks down to the community room, where he loves to socialize with other residents and play pool," said Paul Muehling of the CTA River Apartments.

He added that Pages "has a wonderful sense of humor."

Big Game Banquet Benefits Elk Foundation
WEST TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will have its annual Big Game Banquet on Aug. 9 at Tampa Letter Carriers Hall, 3003 W. Cypress St.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the fundraiser, which includes dinner, music by the Wirebeaters Bluegrass Band, a silent and live auction and assorted prizes.

Sunset Stroll Benefits Moffitt

CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Sarcoma Sunset Stroll, a one-mile walk on Friday, will raise awareness for sarcoma.

The walk starts at Stumps Supper Club, 615 Channelside Drive. Registration is at 6 p.m., and the walk begins at 6:30. A $20 donation to participate will benefit the Sarcoma Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.

Wine Tasting To Benefit Head Start Foundation

SOUTH TAMPA - Mike Kwasin will host a wine tasting with appetizers at his home, 3613 S. Beach Drive, to benefit the Hillsborough Head Start Community Foundation.

The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. July 31 and feature more than 50 wines. Suggested donation is $25, or $ 40 a couple. For information, call (813) 837-8941.

Tech Jam 2008 Set For Forum

CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Tampa Bay Tech Forum Foundation will sponsor Tech Jam 2008: A Summer Party With a Purpose, a live music event with Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel. It also will include food, dancing and silent auction.

The event will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 7 at the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive.
