We are the Sebring Blue Streaks. When I heard that the football team came out in black jerseys I was upset. Who approved this? Did the school board? Did the high school? Did the coaches? I'm sorry but this is an outrage. This just isn't about the football team, it's about all the teams and the band changing to black. We look like a big bruise on the field. What is wrong with our school's true colors? Who has the authority to change them? They have been this for as long as I can remember. Now with the band we are ruining the legacy that Mr. Gustat started and that his son continued. No one can tell me why we can't have blue pants. I would not even mind what shade of blue. I have talked to several of the students and they want blue, so why can't they have the blue and white? ...more

I hate to pop the bubble of the person who tossed out the overestimation of people attending the Sebring tea party, but I was there that afternoon too, but not for the political rally. It was my observation that the bulk of the people were there for the "scheduled" monthly car show as well as the "scheduled" popular talent contest that this rally disrupted. The number of people attending the rally was obviously much smaller than stated. As I walked around, people voluntarily offered these comments: From a nurse: "They are so negative." From a retiree: … "these people just hate anything Obama…" From a retired military person: "These people don't know how good a country we live in." ...more

I agree with Roy Dettwiler's letter published in your Nov.18 edition in that I also believe our country's current problems are largely spiritual. I've recently heard on the news that groups of activists: homosexual, pro-abortion or whoever they are this week, are protesting pro-life teaching or prayer breakfasts in the schools, or a cross on a teacher's wall due to a violation of "separation of church and state." ...more

I want to know why, when our president's strong approval rating is only 27 percent, our Congress is still pushing this Socialist medical plan, when an overwhelming percent of our citizens are against it. I want to know why our newspapers are not supporting our views. Why are they courting the left wing radicals? So many of our newspapers are facing bankruptcy; Gee, what if they actually printed the truth? It seems to be getting closer to home, but I still don't see the truth when I open my paper. ...more

We had two major talent events going at once, The Highlands Little Theatre production of "Fiddler on the Roof" as well as the finale of Heartland Idol. Both were outstanding and I have sympathy for anyone who missed either of them. "Fiddler on the Roof" was flat outstanding. If Broadway scouts ever saw Pete Pollard in action it is my feeling that he would not be living in Sebring, but in New York. ...more
